Succus Bambosae

Properties: It is sweet in flavour and cold in nature. It is tropistic to the lung, heart, stomach channels. It¡¯s sweetness and coldness enable it being good at lubricating. It exerts its effect on the lung channel for removing heat-phlegm to induce resuscitation, and on channels and collaterals to eliminate obstruction in channels and collaterals and remove phlegm. Therefore, it is applicable for treatment of cough and asthma due to phlegm-heat, infantile convulsion due to phlegm-heat, apoplexy and abundant expectoration, and other syndromes.

Effects: Removing heat-phlegm, arresting convulsion.

For treatment of infantile accumulation of phlegm-heat, pyrexia with acute infantile convulsion, it is frequently used together with Calculus Bovis, Arisaema cum Bile, Rhizoma Gastrodiae, and other drugs having the effects of removing heat-phlegm, and heat from the liver to arrest convulsion; For treatment of apoplexy due to phlegm-heat, aphasia and hemiparalysis, unconsciousness, it is usually used in combination with Fructus Trichosanthis, Tabasheer, Calculus Bovis, and other phlegm resolving and convulsion-arresting drugs.

Dosage and Administration: 30-60g by infusion in hot water.
