Properties:
The drug is pungent and sweet in flavour, cool in nature
and acts on the spleen and stomach channels. Pungent and
cool for lifting and dispersing effects. It is good at
dispelling pathogens from muscles and channels and lifting
lucid Yang-Qi in the spleen and stomach. It is indicated
for muscular tension in the neck and back due to invasion
of muscles by pathogens, and for deficiency of the spleen
and diarrhea caused by lucid Yang failing to rise. It can
also promote the production of the body fluid and quench
thirst by its cool and moist nature.
Effects:
Dispelling exopathogens,
clearing heat, lifting Yang, promoting eruption,
generating the body fluid and quenching thirst.
Indication:
1.
To treat exterior syndromes affected by
exopathogens, accumulated pathogens in muscles, headache
and stiff neck, it is often used in combination with
ephedra and cinnamom twig, such as Gegen Decoction for
inducing sweats to dispel exopathogens and relieving
muscular tension.
2.
To treat infantile measles without smooth eruption,
it can be used in combination with schizonepeta, cicada
slough, cimicifuga rhizome and other drugs for dispersing
wind, dispelling exopathogens. ventilating the lung and
promoting eruption.
3.
It can be used in combination with anemarrhena
rhizome and pollen for clearing heat, promoting the
production of the body fluid and quenching thirst, to
treat depletion of the body fluid due to febrile disease
with symptoms of dry mouth, thirst and red tongue without
fur; and with dried rehmannia root, ophiopogon root and
schisandra fruit, such as Yuquan Decoction for promoting
the production of the body fluid and quenching thirst, to
treat internal heat and diadetes.
4.
To treat deficiency of Qi in the middle Jiao,
lingering diarrhea and loose stool, it can be used in
combination with dangshen, white atractylodes rhizome and
poria for strengthening the spleen and arresting diarrhea.
