Properties: The herb is pungent, sweet and bitter in flavour, slightly cold in nature and acts on the lung and liver channels. Pungent and cold for dispersing wind-heat from the lung channel, sweet and cold for clearing heat from the liver, nourishing Yin and improving eyesight, and bitter and cold for clearing heat and removing toxins, it is often used to treat wind-heat type of exterior syndromes, liver-heat, conjunctival congestion, toxic heat, sore and carbuncle.

Effects: Dispersing wind-heat, purging heat from the liver, improving eyesight, clearing heat and removing toxins.

Indication:

1. To treat wind-heat type of common cold or initial febrile disease at Wei stage, the herb is often used in combination with mulberry leaf and peppermint, such as Sang Ju Decoction for dispersing wind-heat.

2.   It can be used in combination with gentian root and prunella spike for purging liver-fire to improve eyesight, to treat conjunctival congestion and swelling pain; with wolfberry fruit and prepared rehmannia root, such as Qi Ju Dihuang Pill for nourishing Yin and improving eyesight, to treat Yin deficiency of the liver and kidney and blurred vision; and with achyranthes root, abalone shell and other drugs for calming the liver and suppressing Yang hyperactivity of the liver, to treat exuberant liver-Yang, dizziness and headache.

In addition, it can also be used to treat toxic heat, sore and carbuncle.

Dosage and Administration: 10-15g. Yellow chrysanthemum flower mainly for dispersing wind-heat, and white chrysanthemum flower mainly for clearing heat from he liver and improving eyesight.
